How to upload the design into Cricut Design Space

Start this project by uploading the cut file. The filename is SVG-MermaidTail.svg

Click on Upload which is on the left side of the screen. Then click Upload Image. You can either click the browse button or drag and drop the cut file into the Cricut Design Space window.

Click upload. Then select the design so that the green box is around it and click Add to Canvas.

How to prepare the mermaid tail cupcake topper

Once you have your free mermaid tail cupcake topper design in Cricut Design Space, you’re almost set to bring it to life. Here’s what to do next:

Double-check the size of your cake topper to make sure it fits your cupcake just right. Typically, I go for a width of 2-3 inches, but since this design is a bit narrower at the bottom, feel free to opt for a larger size if it suits your cupcake better.
When you’re all set and your topper size is spot on, click on “make it” to begin the cutting process with your trusty Cricut machine.

This crafty project is pretty thrifty on materials. You’ll need four different colors of cardstock, and it’s a fantastic way to use up those leftover scraps. Just ensure you’ve selected the correct cardstock settings on your Cricut before cutting out all the different layers.

Assemble your mermaid tail cupcake topper

Now that you’ve got all the pieces ready, let’s put together your cute mermaid cupcake topper. Here’s what to do step by step:

Begin by gluing the clam shell outline to the base layer of the clam shell. Do the same for the mermaid tail and its outline.

To give your topper some extra oomph and dimension, you can use foam tabs or tape to secure the clam to the mermaid tail. If you don’t have foam tabs, regular glue will work just fine.

Now, let’s get ready to add the stick. For these cake toppers, I used an acrylic cake pop stick. Simply snip it in half using a pair of jewelry wire cutters. Then attach the stick to the back of the mermaid tail cupcake topper using hot glue. And that’s it!

Your mermaid tail cupcake topper is now ready to make a splash at your party!

Casita Door Card

Create the perfect Casita door card

Let’s start with the Casita Card, inspired by the vibrant Colombian towns and the magical Casita door from the movie Encanto. This papercraft project has layers of colorful goodness, which your Cricut machine will cut effortlessly.

Turn any cake into an Encanto Cake

Now, onto the second project: an Encanto-inspired cake topper. This cake topper complements the Casita card perfectly, as both feature similar door designs which mimic the Casita door from the movie.

If you’re planning a DIY Encanto Party with Cricut or any party, you’ll find this cake topper post helpful. It shares my favorite tips and tricks to add characters to your cake toppers.

As a quick overview, to create a character cake topper with Cricut, you’ll need to use the Print Then Cut feature.

Here’s how it works: First, print the characters using your home printer directly from Cricut Design Space. Then, load the printed sheet into your Cricut machine and let it cut out the image with amazing precision. The machine uses special marks around the printed image to know where to make the cuts.

Just keep in mind that not all Cricut machines have the Print Then Cut feature. It’s available for Cricut Explore Air 2 or 3, as well as the Cricut Maker or Maker 3 models. The Cricut Joy can cut and draw, but it doesn’t have the Print Then Cut feature.

Recreate the Encanto miracle candle

The Encanto Miracle candle represents the magical powers of the Madrigal family and is a symbol of hope and inspiration in the movie Encanto. Recreating the Encanto Miracle candle is a quick Cricut project with this free butterfly cut file.

Jump on over to Spot of Tea Designs to create a candle wrap that resembles the magical candle from the movie. Add some shimmer and sparkle with Gold Holographic Sparkle Vinyl for an extra touch of enchantment.

Casita door card Instructions

Once you have the casita door card cut file, open Cricut Design Space and start a new project. Upload the provided cut file by clicking on the “Upload” button. Once uploaded, you’ll see both the card and envelope designs. Click “Add to Canvas” to place them on your project.

Now, let’s prepare the design. Double-check the size, which should be about 20 inches wide. Ungroup the elements to work with them individually.

To add score lines to the envelope, select the red rectangle and choose “Score” from the Operation menu. Attach the score lines to the envelope shape. For the card structure, select the center line and apply the “Score” operation.

If you’d like to add a faux engraved initial on the door knob, use the text tool to type the initial. Choose a writing font, like BFC Ballgame, and change the operation to “Score.” Resize the letter and attach it to the door knob layer.

Now it’s time to cut. Select the type of cardstock you’re using and load it onto the machine mat. Make sure to add the scoring stylus when needed. Follow the prompts on the screen and let the Cricut machine work its magic.

After cutting, assemble the card by adding the brown piece to the inside and arranging the floral garland and butterfly. Fold the score lines using a paper folder for crisp creases. Glue the white card insert and attach it to the bottom of the card.

Add the door knob and other details to the front of the card using glue. If desired, add craft foam to give the door knob dimension.

Finish by folding and gluing the envelope using the score lines. Now your Cricut Casita door card is complete and ready to impress!

How to upload the Outer Space Birthday Cake topper into Cricut Design Space

Start this project by uploading the cut file. The filename is SVG-SpaceCakeTopper.svg

Click on Upload which is on the left side of the screen. Then click Upload Image. You can either click the browse button or drag and drop the cut file into the Cricut Design Space window.

Click upload. Then select the design so that the green box is around it and click Add to Canvas.

How to prepare the Outer Space Birthday Cake topper

First, you’ll put the Outer Space Birthday Cake topper on the Cricut Design space canvas. Then click on the text tool to add the birthday kid’s name and age. You can make a second layer using the offset tool. Put the name on the banner and the age in the middle of the cake topper.

Next, double check the size of the cake topper and press “make it” when you’re ready to start cutting with your Cricut machine.

This project uses 6 or 7 different colors of cardstock (depending on the colors used for the stars and rocket ship exhaust). After picking the right setting for your cardstock, cut out all the different layers. If you’re using glitter cardstock or foil board, you may need to search for the right setting under ‘browse all materials’.

Assemble your Outer Space Birthday Cake topper

To begin assembling your cake topper, start by putting all the pieces together without glue to make sure everything looks good. Then, use foam tabs to stick the two base layers together.

Next, assemble the moon and rocket ship. The moon consists of two layers and the rocket ship has 4 layers. Each layer stacks on top of the other. Add foam tabs inbetween the layers.

Then assemble the astronaut on the moon. This section is assembled in the same way as the rocket ship. Each layer stacks on top of the next. For the top most layer, which is the flag, secure with glue.

Move on to the banner and stars. Both the banner and stars are two layers stacked with foam tabs. The inside of the star has pointy edges, while the outside layer has more rounded edges.

Once everything is assembled, use glue or foam to add each section to its designated spot on the cake topper. To finish off your Outer Space Birthday Cake topper, add a paper cake pop stick to the back with hot glue.

To begin assembling your cake topper, start by putting all the pieces together without glue to make sure everything looks good. Then, use foam strips to stick the first two layers together.

Next, put the small pieces like the fairy wand together first so they don’t get lost. After that, you can make the fairy and add the wand to her hand with glue.

Then assemble the tree and banner. Don’t forget about the little mushroom on the side.

To finish off your Fairy birthday party cake topper, add a paper cake pop stick to the back with hot glue.

Cakes are not the only dessert that can get dressed up. You can make beautiful birthday cupcake toppers with Cricut and cardstock.

Cricut Design Space makes designing your cupcake toppers a breeze. With Cricut, you have everything you need to create your own birthday cupcake topper using Cricut images and a selection of fonts for numbers.

Follow along as I show you how to create a birthday cupcake topper with Cricut.

That’s not all. I’ll show you my trick to designing a cupcake topper structure that works for double digit numbers.

How big should cupcake toppers be on Cricut?

Good question.

The size of your birthday cupcake topper with Cricut depends on the size of the cupcake or the look you are going for.

For example, the cupcake topper below is oversized at 4 inches wide on top of a standard sized cupcake. Oversized cupcake toppers work well to display one special cupcake for the birthday girl/boy/adult.

On the other hand, small, simple cupcake toppers 2 inches wide or less, would work well if you want toppers for a lot of cupcakes. The smaller birthday cupcake toppers with Cricut are simple and you can cut a dozen from one sheet of cardstock.

What machine do I need to make birthday cupcake toppers with Cricut?

Any Cricut cutting machine can make cupcake toppers: Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Explore Air 3 or Cricut Joy.

Here’s the main issue with Cricut machines for paper crafts: cut size limits

Any Cricut machine can cut cardstock to create a birthday cupcake topper.

Lucky for us, the best part is that cupcake toppers are smaller than cake toppers. The Cricut joy size limit of 4.5 inches wide works well for cupcake toppers.

So get crafting with any Cricut machine you have. Size limits are not a problem with this project.

What other food options could I use with a cupcake topper?

Cookies: Stack a few cookies and add a the cupcake topper down the center
Brownies: As a single layer or stacked, make brownies extra special with a cupcake topper
Pancakes: Add a surprise cupcake topper to a stacked pancake breakfast
Rice Crispy treats: dress up boring rice crispy treats with a cupcake topper
Drinks: Fancy drink stirs with 6 inch acrylic cake pop sticks

What if I don’t want to design a topper myself?

I get it.

Creating a design from scratch takes time. The design time eats into your overall time to make the project.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a Birthday Cupcake Topper with Cricut

Acetate
Glitter cardstock Gold
Green and Pink cardstock
Brayer
Cake pop sticks (or substitute toothpicks)
Papercrafting glue
Hot glue gun
Bling sticker

How to design a birthday cupcake topper with Cricut

Open up a new canvas in cricut design space and Click on the Text tool on the left side. Type the numbers for your birthday cupcake topper.

Next, let’s add some tropical elements to our cupcake topper design.

Click images on the left side. I searched for hibiscus flowers and a tropical leaf, which are part of Cricut access. You can use whatever images you like or upload new images.

Arrange the leaf the way you want. Have fun playing around in Cricut Design Space to create the look you are going for.

Make any adjustments to the other images now before we move on to weld the design together.

Next, select the whole cupcake topper and group together.

Select Duplicate to make a copy of the design.

Select the number and leaf images that are behind the numbers and click weld. This will create a layer to start building our birthday cupcake topper structure.

Next, we will create the base layer.

Click the Offset tool at the top. Play around with the offset to get an outline that connects the two numbers. Then click apply when you are happy.

Next, rebuild your cupcake topper.

Arrange the numbers, leaf and flower on the cupcake topper design. If needed, click arrange bring to front to bring the designs to the front of your project. This doesn’t need to be perfect but will give you an idea of how the final project will look.

Click make it when you are ready and cut out your birthday cupcake topper with Cricut.

How to assemble a birthday cupcake topper with Cricut

Once everything has been cut out, it’s time to assemble your cupcake topper.

I am starting by combining the numbers and the green layer. I used adhesive foam squares for this layer.

Next, I am using my favorite papercraft glue to add the number to the acetate base. If you don’t have acetate, you could substitute with cardstock instead.

Go ahead and combine the flower layers together with glue. Instead of a layered flower, you could use a rolled flower or another layered paper design.

For the flower, I added a pearl bling sticker to the center of the flower. Most bling stickers have adhesive on the back but I like to add a small spot of glue to make sure the sticker stays in place.

Take a moment to figure out where you’d like to add the flower. Once you have the spot picked out, add the flower with hot glue.

Your cupcake topper is almost done. All we need to do is add the sticks.

I had already cut a 6 inch acrylic cake pop stick in half with jewelry pliers; however, tooth picks work great for cupcake topper sticks as well.

Use hot glue to add the cake pop sticks to the back. I added a stick to the back of each number for extra stability. One stick might be all you need.

Your Cricut made cupcake topper is ready to go.

6 must haves to make party favor boxes with Cricut | Free Cut file

You are crafty and you want to make party favor boxes for an upcoming event.

You know it can be done because you’ve seen photos on social media.

Yet you aren’t sure where to start.

What are favor boxes made out of? How do I cut them all exactly the same? Are there any free templates I can use?

If all this makes you think twice about making your own favor boxes – take a breath. Because there is an easy way to make adorable favor boxes at home.

And that’s what I’m going to show you in this article.

Best Cricut machine to make party favor boxes

You probably guessed it…

You need a Cricut cutting machine. But not just any Cricut cutting machine.

You need either a Cricut Explore Air 2/3 or a Cricut Maker/3 machine.

Why? I’m glad you asked

Here’s why this is important. Any Cricut machine that can cut cardstock can be used to make party favor boxes.

However, the little Cricut Joy has a cut size limitation of 4.5 inches wide. The cut size limit will reduce the available template options that fit or will cause you to make super tiny boxes.

The best Cricut machine to make party favor boxes one of the following:

Cricut Explore Air 3 (best value)
Cricut Maker 3 (cuts 300+ materials)

These machines have a cut size limit of 11.7 inches wide.

For example, this rainbow favor box was cut all at once on one Cricut mat with a single sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock.

Cardstock to make party favor boxes

But we aren’t done there. Next we need materials to cut on your Cricut machine.

To make party favor boxes, you need cardstock. Cardstock comes in a wide variety of weights and textures.

Cardstock weight refers to the thickness of the cardstock. The higher the weight the thicker the cardstock

65 lb = thin cardstock
110 lb = thick cardstock

I know what you’re thinking.

You probably think I need thick cardstock to make a favor box. Well, sure you can use a thick 110 lb cardstock.

And you can also use 65 lb cardstock to make party favor boxes. The rainbow favor box shown above was created using lightweight cardstock.

A well thought out favor box design will still work well even with thin cardstock.

Cricut blades to make paper crafts with Cricut

Next up, we need a way to score fold lines into our cardstock to make party favor boxes.

It should be no surprise to learn that favor boxes are assembled by folding score lines. Luckily for us, our Cricut machines can make score lines for us.

Score! (pun totally intended)

The Cricut Scoring Stylus can be used on both the Cricut Explore and Maker machines.

What’s special about the Scoring Stylus is that the Cricut machine can hold both the stylus and the cutting blade at the same time so you can cut and score in one step.

Another option for the Cricut Maker is the Scoring Wheel.

Here is what you need to know about the Scoring Wheel:

Only works with the Maker
Creates extra-deep score lines for super crisp creases
Has 10X more pressure than the Scoring Stylus
Adds a little extra time to switch out the blade during the cut

In addition to a tool for scoring paper, you will need the fine point blade that comes with all Cricut machines. The fine point blade will cut cardstock and acetate.

Best glue to make party favor boxes with Cricut

Stick with me here because we are headed to simpler papercraft tools.

We need glue or adhesive to assemble and secure our boxes together.

Believe it or not – not all glue is created equal. That elmers school glue you used as a kid, won’t work as nicely on cardstock.

That is because school glue is very watery and will wrinkle cardstock.

For that reason, I use a glue made specifically for papercrafts, dries clear and comes with a precision tip for super tiny areas.

The precision tip makes it really easy to control the amount and flow of the glue.

Other options for adhesive to use with papercrafts are:

Glue gun with small tip
Double sided tape

Best Cricut Mats for cardstock

Now, this is important and can make or break your project.

Cricut Machine mats

You might be wondering which Cricut mat is the best to make party favor boxes.

With your Cricut machine, you will use mats to load the cardstock into the machine. The Cricut will use the mat to keep the cardstock stable while cutting.

Let me break this down for you with a list of machine mats:

Blue LightGrip Mat: light/thin cardstock, printer paper, construction paper
Green StandardGrip Mat: medium cardstock, textured paper, patterned paper
Purple StrongGrip Mat: Thick cardstock, Glitter cardstock

The reality is, for Cricut papercrafts you need all three varieties of machine mats. It really depends on the type of cardstock you want to cut.

For the most part, you can get away with using the LightGrip (blue) and StandardGrip (green) mats. Once in a while, you may need the purple mat for a really thick or heavily textured cardstock.

How to apply and remove cardstock without tearing

My final must haves to make party favor boxes with Cricut are two tools I use all the time:

Brayer
Spatula

For a long time I was not convinced a brayer was necessary, and then I got one.

A brayer makes a noticeable difference for how well your cardstock sticks to the Cricut machine mats, which then leads to better cuts especially for the most difficult little pieces and the really textured glitter cardstock.

Cricut has a brayer but there are other options available such as this one.

I can almost hear you thinking – what on earth does a spatula have to do with paper projects?

It may seem like a random tool but the Cricut Spatula is helpful for removing cardstock from the machine mat.

The Spatula only comes in sets like this one with the scraper tool. Bonus! Because the scraper tool is handy for scraping tiny cardstock pieces off the machine mat without damaging the mat.

How to make a favor box with Cricut

To help you make party favor boxes, I made this Rainbow favor box a freebie in my shop. Go grab the free template and upload the cut file into Cricut Design Space.

What supplies do I need to make this project?

Cricut machine
Cricut machine mat
Brayer
Brown Kraft Cardstock
Colorful Cardstock
Paper Glue
Thin Foam Strips

Prepare the favor box in Cricut Design Space

When you upload a project with score lines, you need to change the lines from cut to score.

Select all the lines and go to Operation on the top menu. Then select Score. This will change all the lines to score lines.

Select the box and the score lines, and click attach. Attaching the score lines to the box will keep the score lines in place once you click make it.

Click make it when you are ready to cut the design.

For the favor box I made, I used brown kraft paper for the box and gold glitter cardstock for the background of the rainbow. And I used a bunch of colors to create a rainbow.

Continue on and cut the project with cardstock using your Cricut cutting machine.

How to assemble your favor box

Once all the pieces are cut out, use paper glue to assemble the rainbow one layer at a time.

Once the rainbow is completed, glue to the rectangle. The rectangle is the background of the rainbow.

Go ahead and glue the frame around the outside of the favor box window.

Next, fold all the score lines inward. Glue the thin flap above the window down. This is extra reinforcement at the top of the box where the lid closes.

Before you fold together the box, add the rainbow to the window. I used thin double sided adhesive tape to secure the rainbow to the window. This adds a little dimension and looks like an inset.

Once the rainbow window is done, fold the box together. Add glue to the flap and hold for a moment to let the glue set.

Add glue to the bottom flap as well.

Double check that the box is secure and add extra glue if needed.

I put the extra rectangle cut in brown kraft paper into the bottom of the favor box. It is for extra support.

And that’s it. Your Cricut made rainbow favor box is ready to use.

I created the Little Sunshine designs for a friend of mine who is expecting her first little girl. Of course, I want to DIY the baby shower decorations to perfectly fit the theme.

We choose a bright and happy little Miss Sunshine theme to celebrate the expecting mom.

Here's what you'll need to DIY Sunshine Cupcake Topper with Cricut

How to DIY Sunshine Cupcake Topper with Cricut

Start this project by uploading the sun cupcake topper cut file. The filename is SVG-LittleSunshineCupcakeTopper.svg

You can click browse or drag and drop the design directly into Cricut Design Space.

Then, select the design and click Add to Canvas.

Double check the size of the design, which should be about 3 inches wide for the average cupcake. You can adjust the size by clicking and dragging the bottom right double arrow.

The design shows two bow options: a pink hair bow and a blue bow tie.

Select one of the bow layers on the right side layer panel and click the eyeball icon to hide the layer you do not need.

Once your project is ready, click Make It to send the project to Cricut.

You will see all the mats with the different colors. This project uses the color black, two shades of yellow and a color for the bow. Continue on and cut the project with cardstock using your Cricut cutting machine.

Once all the pieces are cut out, use glue to add the black circle to the sun face.

Next, add double sided adhesive foam to the bottom layer and add the sun face on top.

This is totally optional. I added distress ink to make rosy cheeks and to outline the edges of the sun cupcake topper. The color of the ink I used is called worn lipstick for the cheeks and wild honey for the edges. I used a small Detail Blending Tool to apply the ink.

Once you are ready, peel the backing off the double sided adhesive and add the sun face to the bottom sun layer.

Next, I added a pearl bling sticker to the center of the bow.

Before adding the bow, I used wire cutters to cut a 6 inch acrylic cake pop stick in half for the stick.

Use hot glue to add the stick to the back of the sun.

The last step is to add the bow. The bow is a little small so you can either use a small amount of glue or thin pieces of double sided foam.

And thats it. Your little sunshine cupcake topper is ready to use.

The easiest way to make a monogram with Cricut

Learn how to make a monogram cupcake topper with Cricut

Once was a time when making a monogram design with Cricut required searching for special fonts and the perfect frames. Followed by manually designing a monogram within Cricut Design Space.

The alternative was to cut and chop apart a design to create a space for the monogram. Or manually curving and altering text which can be tedious in Cricut Design Space.

But that cumbersome process is no more with the Cricut Monogram Maker feature.

Where do I find the Cricut Monogram Maker?

This feature sounds awesome. So what’s the catch?

The Monogram Maker feature is only available on the desktop and to Cricut Access subscribers.

You can find the Monogram Maker on the bottom, left side of your Cricut Design Space screen from your desktop computer.

The feature was released with Cricut Design Space for Desktop in update v7.9 in the May 2022 timeframe.

How do I make a monogram with Cricut?

This neat little tool has everything you need to make a monogram with Cricut in any style to include cut only options, pen drawn designs or the combination of cut and draw designs.

At the top of the screen you will see the initial text input boxes. This is where you add the letters you want to use for the monogram.

Right next to the initial input boxes is the application drop down menu. This is a filter to show only cut, draw only or cut and draw designs.

Underneath the initial boxes and application menu are the monogram themes. There are a ton of styles to choose from including elegant, modern, vintage as well as botanical, decorative, occasions, interests and sports.

Within each monogram style, you can further customize your monogram by choosing a font and frame style.

Once you have finalized your monogram, click the Add to Canvas button to drop the design into your canvas.

This is where it gets interesting. The monogram isn’t an uneditable, merged together design.

Which means you can still adjust and add to the design.

You will see the monogram consists of grouped together layers, which means you can edit and add to the layers just like any other design in Cricut Design Space.

Follow along as I show you how to create a floating cupcake topper monogram with Cricut.

How to design a cupcake monogram with Cricut

To get started in Cricut Design Space, click on the monogram tool, which is on the bottom left side of the screen.

For the cupcake toppers, I choose the elegant style monogram.

Located near the top are the text boxes where you add the initials you want to use.

There are a bunch of frame varieties to choose from. For this project, I am using the simple double circle frame.

Once you are happy with the monogram, click add to canvas.

You will see that the design is on separate layers but grouped together.

For the floating cupcake topper, we need to attach the layers together.

First, with the design group selected, click the color options and choose one color for the whole design.

Next, with the design group selected, click on Attach near the bottom of the screen.

Now we can add an offset which will be used to create the floating effect.

Click the offset tool near the top of the screen and select a distance.

I used an offset of .2 inches. The goal is for the offset to connect the letters to the outside frame.

Resize the whole cupcake topper design to 3 inches wide.

The monogram cupcake topper design is done and you can add any embellishments.

I found two images in the Cricut Library to use as a rolled flower and leaf. I chose the design M4258D for the leaf and M3D7E1 for the flower.

When you are ready, click make it to send the project to your Cricut machine.

How to cut the cupcake monogram with Cricut

You will see all the mats with the different colors. This project uses:

Holographic Vinyl for the monogram and circle border
Clear acetate for the offset layer
Green and Pink cardstock for the flower

Continue on and cut the project with vinyl, acetate and cardstock using your Cricut cutting machine.

How to assemble the cupcake topper monogram

To assemble the cupcake topper, you will need

The monogram design cut in vinyl and transfer tape
The offset layer cut in acetate
The rolled flower and leaves cut in cardstock
And a clear cake pop stick

Grab a light grip cricut mat and add the acetate to the mat. This will help keep the acetate in place so you can apply the vinyl on top easier.

Use transfer tape to apply the vinyl to the acetate.

Next, we will prepare the rolled flower. Starting from the outside, roll the paper tightly inward. I used a paper quilling tool to help roll the flower.

Fold over the last circle and secure with a small dot of hot glue.

You can use hot glue or paper glue to add the flower to the cupcake topper.

Tuck the leaves in on either side of the rolled flower with more glue.

Now all we need to do is add the stick and the cupcake topper will be done.

I used a pair of jewelry pliers to cut the clear cake pop stick in half.

Use a very small dot of hot glue to add the cake pop stick. I added glue on the middle letter and on the bottom of the frame. This looks best if the glue is mostly hidden behind a vinyl section.

And thats it! Your floating monogram cupcake topper is ready to go.

I know what you’re thinking…

You have so much to do to prepare for the birthday party. You definitely do not have the time to bake and decorate a cake.

The solution is simple.

Buy a cake and DIY a cake topper.

I find working with paper much more forgiving than baking. Cake toppers are one of my favorite paper crafts. You can take a plain jane, store bought cake and dress it up in any theme instantly.

Another reason I love Cricut made cake toppers is that you can continue to enjoy the cake topper after the party is over.

Here are a couple of ways to reuse a cake topper:

Save in a document sleeve as part of a memory binder
Add to a shadow box and put on display

You can’t help but smile with this colorful DIY rainbow party cake topper. Easily change the colors from traditional rainbow colors to a pastel rainbow or even an ombre collection of shades.

Use your Cricut machine to cut all the layers in cardstock and assemble the layers together with glue. As the final step, add cake pop sticks to the back with hot glue. Super easy!

In a similar fashion, store bought cupcakes can be upgraded with colorful cupcake toppers.

I love that I can send my husband out to grab a dozen cupcakes and customize them quickly with cupcake toppers. You can make the toppers in advance and have them ready to go for the cupcakes.

And I’m not stopping there…

A party isn’t a party without the birthday boy/girl’s name on a banner.

Baby showers are filled with mini sized adorable things like onesies, diapers, little outfits, tiny shoes, etc. When a friend of mine shared that she is expecting her first baby girl during the summer, I knew I wanted to DIY the perfect baby shower decorations for her.

Here's what you'll need to make a DIY sunshine cake decoration with Cricut

How to make DIY sunshine cake decoration with Cricut

Start this project by uploading the cut file into Cricut Design space. The filename is SVG-LittleSunshinePart1.svg You can click browse or drag and drop the design directly into Cricut Design Space.

Once the design is on the canvas, double check the size of the design, which should be 12 inches by 12 inches. The frequent updates in cricut Design space can sometimes cause cut files to upload incorrectly. You will notice this cut file includes the cake topper, cupcake topper and banner pendants.

Click ungroup and we will select the parts of the design that we are not using to remove. You can either delete them or hide the layers. I deleted the cupcake and banners – leaving the cake topper. The pink vertical object is the hair bow that goes on last.

Once your project is ready, click Make It to send the project to Cricut. You will see all the mats with the different colors. This project uses six colors. Continue on and cut the project with cardstock using your Cricut cutting machine.

Once all the pieces are cut out, use glue to add the black circle to the sun face. Next, add double sided adhesive foam to the back of the sun face and add to the bottom layer.

Add the blue cloud with double sided adhesive foam and a little glue on the bottom of the sun. Then, add the white cloud with more double sided adhesive foam.

Next grab the text and the offset layer. Use paper glue on the back of the black letters and add them to the offset layer. Take your time to line up the words.

Add thin pieces of double sided adhesive foam to the words. I didn’t add foam to the very outside part of the L in little or the last S in miss because those two words are meant to hang off the side a little.

Grab the strip for the bow and use a straight edge to shape the edges inward. Fold one edge in at a time and use a small dab of hot glue in the middle to attach the edge. Repeat on the other side. Use hot glue or paper glue to attach the circle to the center of the bow.

Before adding the bow to the cake topper, use hot glue to add the sticks to the back. I added the sticks at this point because I didn’t want the bow to get smushed. I used 6 inch acrylic cake pop sticks. They work well for lightweight cake toppers.

Finally, use hot glue to secure the bow to the top of the finished cake topper.
